We visited Ueno Zoo on Saturday -- it was nice! It seemed like everyone was there that day though, kids, parents, huge crowds! I think they give the animals a bit less space here than your average USA zoo so it was easier to see them... it also seemed to be feeding time so we saw some cute scenes. I'd definitely recommend the zoo even though their panda exhibit was closed for renovation :( (The alligator and the turtle were holding hands, BFFs <3)
